Insights into the forces shaping our industry.

Thank you to our Electrical Distributors!

Blog, Hiring Advice

As we all prepare for Thanksgiving gatherings, at Egret Consulting we pause to reflect deeply, not only on the milestones of the past year, but on the industry landscape that makes our work so meaningful. We are profoundly grateful to partner with the very best electrical distributors in the country. These relationships are at the heart of our efforts, and each one is a testament to collaboration, trust, and mutual ambition.

This year, we take special pride in how the electrical distributors have expanded in exciting ways, shaped by major infrastructure needs, technological innovation, and diversification across end-use verticals. That makes our partnerships all the more significant.

What this means for distributors and their partners, like Egret Consulting, is that the opportunity to serve more projects, more verticals, more complex systems is expanding.

For instance:

Infrastructure modernization (grid upgrades, smart-grid technologies) remains a major driver of demand.

More electrification in commercial, industrial, and residential markets, including EV infrastructure, smart buildings, data centers, and utilities.

Distributors are broadening their vertical reach, serving manufacturing, institutional, utility, commercial construction, residential sectors, and managed service offerings.

Because of this combination of growth and diversification, our work with electrical distributors takes on ever-greater dimension: matching talent, strategic consulting, and partner-engagement across a landscape that is becoming more challenging, more dynamic, and more rewarding.

We’ve seen a variety of roles become increasingly important across the electrical distribution ecosystem.

Some of the notable jobs and functions include:

  • Branch or regional sales leadership roles: managing territory growth, distributor-manufacturer relationships, and value-added services.
  • Product management/portfolio specialists: managing offerings in lighting & controls, power distribution equipment, wiring devices, smart-grid components, and renewable-integration products.
  • Supply-chain and logistics professionals: as distributors add prefabrication, value-added services, custom-kitting, just-in-time delivery, the need for sophisticated supply-chain talent rises.
  • Technical services and solutions consulting: roles providing lighting design, energy-efficiency consulting, controls integration, project management and systems engineering for complex installs.
  • Digital transformation and e-commerce roles: distributors are investing in digital tools, portals, analytics, customer-facing platforms and internal automation to drive growth.
  • Installer/field service coordination or value-added service managers: as distributors expand into services beyond pure product, these roles become integral.
  • Leadership in mergers, acquisitions, branch openings and geographic expansion: as the industry consolidates, skill sets around integration, change-management and scaling are in demand.

In short: the distribution vertical is no longer just warehouses and order-taking. It’s supply-chain innovation, systems-thinking, services-orientation, and digital enablement. For Egret Consulting, the chance to partner with distributors who are hiring in these strategic areas is a source of real excitement and purpose.

Our gratitude extends not only to our direct distribution partners, but to the larger ecosystem of industry organizations and associations that anchor this vertical. As members of National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED) and National Association of Independent Lighting Distributors (NAILD), we benefit from the thought-leadership, educational forums, benchmarking, networking, and best-practice sharing that these organizations provide.

Because of our involvement with NAED and NAILD, we’ve been able to stay aligned with emerging trends (such as the shift to services and solutions, value-added distribution, digital workflow enablement, and renewable / smart-system integration). These insights help us drive better outcomes for our distributor partners, and more importantly, help them grow and thrive in the changing market.

When distributors deepen their penetrations into verticals such as commercial construction, industrial manufacturing, data centers, utilities, or renewable integration, it opens new levers for growth. Egret Consulting is proud to walk alongside our partners as they navigate these vertical expansions, whether helping recruit leaders who will build out new service lines, or advising on talent strategy that aligns with tomorrow’s markets.

Reflecting on 2025, Egret Consulting is incredibly thankful to each of our distribution partners who entrusted us with their talent-strategy needs.  Every assignment contributed to a broader narrative of growth within the electrical distribution vertical.

We’ve enjoyed our collaboration, meaningful connections, and the gratifying sense that our work is contributing to something bigger. The distributors we serve are confronting significant challenges…supply-chain disruption, evolving customer expectations, technological change, and yet they are also capturing opportunities: expanding into new markets, adding services, leveraging data, supporting electrification, and participating in broader infrastructure buildouts.

We value every relationship. Each distributor partner is unique; each engagement is an opportunity to learn and support. And as we’ve grown alongside them, we’ve grown ourselves, deepening our industry expertise, expanding our networks, and enhancing our service offering.

As we move into 2026, Egret Consulting does so with gratitude and optimism. We’re thankful for the chance to serve in the electrical distributor vertical, thankful for the relationships that sustain our business and define our mission, and thankful for the industry momentum that fuels our shared growth. We look forward to working even more closely with our distributor partners, helping them hire the talent, build the systems, scale the operations, and access the opportunities that this dynamic market presents.

To our distributor partners, to the trade-associations NAED and NAILD, to colleagues, candidates, and friends: thank you for another great year. May your Thanksgiving be full of warmth, reflection, and well-earned rest. May the coming year bring new possibilities, shared success, and continued partnership.

From all of us at Egret Consulting:

Thank you. We are grateful for you. Happy Thanksgiving.
