I am partnering with one of the world’s premier manufacturers of large power transformers, supplying critical equipment that supports utilities and major infrastructure projects across North America and around the globe. Their products are engineered for some of the most demanding applications in the industry, where reliability, efficiency, and long-term performance are expected, not optional. Decades of technical innovation, manufacturing excellence, and continued ivestment have positioned them as a trusted partner to electric utilities and transmission providers worldwide.

As demand continues to accelerate, they are expanding their engineering team and are looking for a Senior Design Engineer who wants to solve complex technical challenges while influencing products that will remain in service for decades.

This is far more than a design position. You will become one of the technical authorities responsible for developing large power transformer designs that satisfy customer requirements while meeting stringent industry standards. Every project presents a unique engineering challenge, requiring thoughtful analysis, collaboration across multiple disciplines, and the ability to balance technical performance, manufacturability, cost, and long-term reliability.

Your work will begin by reviewing customer specifications and translating those requirements into practical engineering solutions. You will perform detailed electrical calculations involving impedance, load and no-load losses, thermal performance, dielectric systems, insulation coordination, cooling methods, and short circuit withstand capability. Using specialized transformer design software, you will develop and optimize designs that satisfy both customer expectations and manufacturing objectives.

The role extends well beyond engineering calculations.

You will regularly participate in technical design review meetings with utilities, consulting engineers, and customers, explaining engineering decisions, answering technical questions, and serving as a trusted subject matter expert throughout the project lifecycle. Your ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly will be just as valuable as your technical expertise.

As projects move through manufacturing, you will support factory acceptance testing, assist with engineering investigations when necessary, participate in root cause analysis, evaluate engineering changes, and provide technical guidance on field issues. Continuous improvement is part of the culture, and your experience will help strengthen future designs while improving manufacturing efficiency and product performance.

Leadership is also an important part of this opportunity. You will mentor less experienced engineers, review technical work, share best practices, and help elevate the capabilities of the engineering team. Your experience will directly influence both individual development and the continued growth of the organization.

In addition, there is strong career growth potential as a 2nd transformer factory is being constructed for up to 765 kV units.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience designing large power transformers along with a deep understanding of transformer theory, electrical design principles, and applicable IEEE, ANSI, and IEC standards. Success in this role requires strong analytical thinking, sound engineering judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work confidently with customers, utilities, consulting engineers, and internal manufacturing teams.

This is an onsite position based in Alabama. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

The company offers a highly competitive compensation package with salary based on experience, quarterly performance bonuses, relocation assistance, and an outstanding benefits program. Medical and dental coverage is approximately 90 percent company paid. The medical plan also includes gap insurance that limits total annual out of pocket costs for physician visits, hospital copays, and prescription copays to a maximum of approximately $300. A 401(k) plan is available after one year of service with an employer match of 80 percent of the first 5 percent contributed, becoming fully vested after three years.

If you are looking for an opportunity to apply your transformer design expertise on projects that strengthen the electrical grid while working alongside some of the industry’s most respected engineering professionals, I welcome the opportunity to tell you more.
