’Twas the Night Before Christmas…Egret Consulting’s Version

Candidate Advice, Hiring Advice, Industry Commentary

’Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the shop,
Not a fixture was flickering. Not even a pop.
The cable was stacked with textbook precision,
Which in this industry is…an ambitious vision.

Breakers were resting all snug in their racks,
While someone in the corner whispered, “Let’s hope the specs don’t change. We’re not doing this twice.”

Then from the loading dock came a clatter so grand,
It sounded like someone dropped a transformer they swear they could lift by hand.
I hurried toward the noise, maintaining OSHA-approved speed,
Probably not, but it’s Christmas…let’s all pretend, agreed?

Outside, LEDs glowed on the snow in full force,
With color temperatures ranging from “cozy” to “interrogate a horse.”
(We love you, lighting industry…but subtlety isn’t your thing.)

Then suddenly WHOOSH! Through the air with a cheer,
Came a sleigh powered by eight very determined engineers.
Their leader called out verticals like a seasoned rep with a fresh commission check:

“On Lighting! On Power! On Wire and Cable!
On Automation, running strong at every hour!
On Cybersecurity! Renewables! IT don’t lag!

They landed gently…well…engineer gently,
Meaning only two things broke, coincidentally.

Automation rolled in, beeping a festive tune,
Promising to “optimize Christmas” by sometime in June.

IT marched in proudly, holding a laptop above,
Declaring, “The system is updated!”
(Which lasted… 45 seconds. But we appreciated the love.)

Renewables breezed in with optimism and charm,
Talking turbines, solar, and “mitigating carbon harm.”
They handed me a tiny windmill, so adorable and bright,
And said, “It works great…in 12–18 months, if permitting goes right.”

Lighting returned with samples galore,
Assuring me “these are 20% more efficient than before.”
Then dimmed the room perfectly…warm, cheerful, precise,
And Power Distribution yelled, “Hold on! Check the amperage twice!”

Wire & Cable appeared in their usual style:
A neat coil here…a mysterious knot pile.
We didn’t ask questions, we never do.
Some industry traditions are sacred and true.

Software arrived last, smiling with cautious delight,
Saying, “Good news, most bugs are fixed… we think… maybe… alright.”
We nodded. We’ve all done holiday installs.
We understand. Truly.

Through the laughter, the quirks, the industry fun,
I realized Egret Consulting works with everyone who makes the electrical industry run.
The manufacturers, the reps, the distributors, even the engineers, too,
The leaders, the builders, the whole innovative crew.

It’s busy, it’s challenging, it’s exciting each day,
And honestly? We wouldn’t have it any other way.

So, with gratitude, joy, and a holiday brew,
We raise a toast from our team to you!

As this year winds down, we find ourselves reflecting on the incredible people who make up this industry: the innovators, builders, leaders, problem-solvers, and visionaries who keep our world powered, connected, illuminated, and moving forward.

We’ve had the privilege to work beside you. Our clients, candidates, and partners through challenges, breakthroughs, shifting markets, new technologies, and the everyday wins that often go unseen but never go unfelt.

The electrical industry is built on systems, components, and infrastructure…but it thrives because of people. People who show up every day. People who solve problems no one else even sees.  People who keep critical operations running, communities growing, and the future bright.
