Egret Consulting
Business Development Manager I Outside Sales & Account Management | Mid-Atlantic Region
Egret Consulting has been retained to identify a Business Development Manager for an established manufacturer of custom electrical enclosures, fabricated metal products, and specialized equipment serving the commercial electrical, utility, and construction markets.
With more than 50 years of manufacturing experience, our client has built a strong reputation throughout the Mid-Atlantic region for delivering high-quality custom fabrication solutions. Its capabilities include electrical enclosures, bussed troughs, current transformer (CT) cabinets, utility products, precision sheet metal fabrication, and powder coating services. The organization works closely with the country’s top electrical contractors, distributors, OEMs, and utility customers to provide products designed around specific project requirements.
The company is seeking an experienced sales professional who can strengthen existing customer relationships while expanding its presence across Northern Virginia and the surrounding Mid-Atlantic markets.
This position combines outside sales, account management, and new business development, with a particular emphasis on growing established customer relationships. The successful candidate will work directly with electrical contractors, electrical distributors, utility contractors, and other commercial customers to understand their project requirements, identify additional opportunities, and position the company’s manufacturing capabilities as a resource for their businesses.
An important aspect of this position is understanding how electrical construction projects move from design and specification through procurement and installation. The Business Development Manager will regularly engage with purchasing professionals, project managers, job site superintendents, and business owners to identify upcoming projects, evaluate customer needs, and develop opportunities for both standard and custom-manufactured products.
Working closely with internal engineering, estimating, and production teams, this individual will help translate customer requirements into practical fabrication solutions and competitive proposals. This includes conducting customer visits, job site walkthroughs, reviewing project specifications, and coordinating technical and commercial requirements to ensure customer expectations can be met.
While account management will represent a significant portion of the responsibility, the company is also seeking someone who can proactively develop new business. Identifying prospective customers, establishing relationships with additional electrical contractors and distributors, pursuing utility-related projects, and expanding product penetration within existing accounts will all contribute to long-term success.
The ideal candidate will understand the importance of responsiveness, technical credibility, and consistent customer engagement in a market where relationships and the ability to deliver on commitments directly influence purchasing decisions.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- A minimum of three to five years of successful outside sales, account management, or business development experience within the electrical industry, custom metal fabrication, utility equipment, or commercial construction products.
- Established relationships with electrical contractors, electrical distributors, utility contractors, OEMs, or related customers throughout Northern Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Familiarity with electrical enclosures, CT cabinets, bussed troughs, custom sheet metal fabrication, or other electrical distribution and utility products.
- An understanding of commercial electrical construction, project requirements, fabrication processes, and utility specifications, including those associated with regional utilities such as Dominion Energy and Pepco.
- Demonstrated success growing existing customer accounts while identifying and developing new business opportunities.
- The ability to work effectively with engineering, estimating, manufacturing, and operations teams to support customer requirements and project execution.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills, with the ability to engage comfortably with field personnel, purchasing managers, and executive leadership.
- A self-directed approach to territory management, customer development, and sales activity, supported by strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Beyond industry experience, our client is seeking someone who enjoys being in front of customers, understands the importance of maintaining strong relationships, and recognizes opportunities to solve problems through custom manufacturing capabilities.
This is an opportunity for a sales professional who wants to represent an established American manufacturer with a long history in the electrical industry, direct access to internal engineering and manufacturing resources, and the ability to develop meaningful customer relationships without unnecessary organizational complexity.
Location: Regional travel throughout Northern Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic.
For an experienced outside sales professional with relationships in the commercial electrical, utility, or fabrication markets, this position offers the opportunity to build upon an established customer base while playing an important role in the continued growth of a respected regional manufacturer.
