Inside Sales Engineer
Electrical Enclosures & Custom Metal Fabrication | VA
Egret Consulting has been retained to identify an Inside Sales Engineer for an established manufacturer of custom electrical enclosures, fabricated metal products, and specialized equipment serving the commercial electrical, utility, and construction markets.
With more than 50 years of manufacturing experience, our client has developed a strong reputation throughout the Mid-Atlantic region for delivering high-quality custom fabrication solutions. Its capabilities include electrical enclosures, bussed troughs, current transformer (CT) cabinets, utility products, precision sheet metal fabrication, and powder coating services. The organization works closely with electrical contractors, distributors, OEMs, and utility customers to provide products designed around specific project requirements.
The company is seeking a technically knowledgeable sales professional who can serve as an important connection between its customers and internal engineering, estimating, and manufacturing teams.
The Inside Sales Engineer will be responsible for reviewing customer inquiries, interpreting technical specifications and drawings, developing quotations, and helping customers identify appropriate solutions for their electrical equipment and custom fabrication requirements. This position requires someone who understands electrical products and construction applications, can evaluate technical requirements, and appreciates the importance of accuracy when translating customer needs into manufacturable products.
Working directly with literally the nation’s top electrical contractors, electrical distributors, utility customers, and OEMs, this individual will manage incoming requests for quotations, review project documentation, clarify specifications, and coordinate with internal departments to establish pricing, production feasibility, and delivery expectations.
A significant part of the position involves understanding how electrical equipment is specified, fabricated, and installed. Whether evaluating requirements for a custom electrical enclosure, CT cabinet, bussed trough, or other fabricated assembly, the Inside Sales Engineer must be able to recognize technical considerations, identify potential issues, and work with the appropriate resources to develop practical solutions.
The successful candidate will also play an important role in supporting existing customer relationships and identifying opportunities for additional business. This includes responding to technical questions, following up on outstanding quotations, coordinating order requirements, and ensuring customers receive timely and accurate information throughout the sales process.
Close collaboration with engineering, estimating, purchasing, and production will be essential. The Inside Sales Engineer will help ensure that customer expectations align with manufacturing capabilities while maintaining clear communication regarding specifications, design changes, material requirements, and project schedules.
This is a position for someone who enjoys the technical side of sales and understands that exceptional customer service requires more than simply processing orders. It involves asking the right questions, understanding the application, anticipating potential challenges, and helping customers make informed purchasing decisions.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Experience in inside sales, sales engineering, technical estimating, or customer-facing engineering support within the electrical industry, custom metal fabrication, utility equipment, or commercial construction markets.
- Familiarity with electrical enclosures, CT cabinets, bussed troughs, switchgear-related products, or other fabricated electrical distribution equipment.
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical specifications, construction documents, and customer requirements.
- An understanding of sheet metal fabrication, manufacturing processes, material selection, and the technical considerations associated with custom-engineered products.
- Experience preparing quotations, reviewing bills of material, evaluating product requirements, and coordinating pricing and delivery information.
- The ability to work effectively with engineering, estimating, purchasing, and manufacturing personnel to resolve technical questions and support customer orders.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple quotations, customer requests, and project deadlines simultaneously.
- A customer-focused approach, strong attention to detail, and the ability to independently identify and resolve problems.
Candidates with experience working for electrical distributors, electrical equipment manufacturers, custom fabrication companies, or electrical contractors will be of particular interest. A formal engineering degree may be beneficial, but practical product knowledge, technical aptitude, and relevant industry experience are equally important.
Beyond technical qualifications, our client is seeking someone who takes ownership of their work, communicates effectively, and understands the importance of supporting customers throughout the entire quotation and order process.
The organization offers the opportunity to work directly with experienced engineering and manufacturing professionals in an established business where decisions can be made efficiently and individual contributions have a meaningful impact.
