(Relocation is available) (potential locations NC, TX, GA, IL )
As the Engineering Director, you will be the “intellectual anchor” of our new cable manufacturing facility. You will serve as the plant’s ultimate subject matter expert (SME), bridging the gap between theoretical engineering and practical floor production while mentoring the next generation of cable engineers. This is focus on new product development focus on what customers need.
Key Startup & Technical Responsibilities
- Design Architecture: Build the foundational product portfolio. This includes creating material call-outs, layer-by-layer cable constructions, and electrical/mechanical performance specifications.
- Specification Conversion: Act as the technical lead in translating customer “wish lists” or ASTM/UL/IEC standards into actionable manufacturing recipes (BOMs and Routings).
- Manufacturing Process Design: Collaborate with Operations to define critical process parameters for extrusion (temperature profiles, line speeds) and cabling (lay lengths, tension control) to ensure product integrity.
- Resident Technical Expert: Provide high-level troubleshooting for complex production issues and serve as the final authority on technical deviations or material substitutions.
- Team Buildout: Build a team of engineers & compliance specialists to deepen technical expertise across the organization
- R&D and Innovation: Lead the evaluation of new materials (advanced resins, high-performance alloys) to optimize cable performance and reduce manufacturing costs.
- Regulatory Liaison: Manage the certification process with third-party agencies (UL, CSA, cUL) to ensure all new designs are fully compliant and listed.
Qualifications
- Experience: 12+ years in Cable Engineering/Design, with a deep understanding of power cable architecture preferred.
- Technical Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of cable materials, polymers, and manufacturing processes
- Design Software: Proficiency in cable design software (e.g., CableBuilder) and CAD tools.
- Problem Solver: Proven ability to troubleshoot “on the fly” in a startup environment where standard procedures are still being documented.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering.
