Industrial Process Engineer – TX, NC, GA, IL – 5681

Electrical Manufacturing & Rep Agencies, Wire & Cable

Egret Consulting

I am working with a $1B electrical component manufacturer who is wanting to build a low voltage cable plant in the USA. They are looking for a Senior Industrial Engineer for a new cable manufacturing plant. Location TBA but looking at states of TX,NC, GA, IL will finalize OCT 31.

As a Senior Industrial Engineer for a new cable manufacturing plant, you will take a leading role in the setup, industrialization, optimization, and ramp-up of manufacturing processes from pilot production to stable series production. The role focuses on developing efficient, safe, scalable, and standardized production processes for cable manufacturing and cable assembly operations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Process Industrialization: Lead and coordinate the development, implementation, and stabilization of manufacturing processes for cable production, including preparation, assembly, extrusion-related processes, testing, packaging, and final inspection. Ensure processes are scalable, repeatable, cost-effective, and suitable for series production.
  • Equipment Commissioning Support: Take a leading role in the commissioning of cable manufacturing equipment by planning and supporting trials, defining and documenting process parameters, evaluating process capability, identifying improvement needs, and ensuring the transfer from pilot production into stable series production.
  • Plant Layout & Material Flow: Lead the design and optimization of workplace layouts, production lines, storage areas, material flows, line feeding concepts, and ergonomic workstations for the new cable plant. Ensure layouts support safety, productivity, future scalability, and efficient end-to-end production flow.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Assure timely repairs and plan required preventative maintenance activities according to suppliers’ maintenance plans. Secure machine availability, fast troubleshooting, and stable production performance.
  • Work Instructions & Standards: Create, review, and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions, process documentation, visual standards, training material, and technical standards for production employees. Ensure documentation is practical, controlled, and aligned with production, quality, safety, and ERP requirements.
  • Time Studies & Capacity Planning: Conduct and validate time studies, define standard times, support line balancing, calculate capacity requirements, identify bottlenecks, and develop improvement proposals for manufacturing processes. Lead controlled process changes in alignment with internal standards, ERP processes, and relevant cable manufacturing requirements.
  • Quality: Support and guide the implementation of quality control procedures at production stages, including process capability checks, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and prevention of recurring defects. (e.g., ISO 9001, UL, or IEEE).
  • Building & Safety: Support building maintenance & contribute to risk assessments and help ensure compliance with plant safety standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Apply and lead Lean Manufacturing methods to improve productivity, reduce waste, shorten lead times, improve workplace organization, and support stable production performance.
  • ERP / MRP Process Data: Define, maintain and validate production-related master data such as routings, work centers, production versions, cycle times, and process parameters in the ERP/MRP system.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or production support, preferably in cable manufacturing, cable assembly, electronics, automotive, or a comparable industrial environment. Experience in a greenfield plant, production ramp-up, process industrialization, or new equipment introduction environment is strongly preferred.
  • Industry Expertise: Good to strong understanding of cable manufacturing or cable assembly processes, such as cutting, stripping, crimping, assembly, testing, extrusion-related processes, shielding, cabling, packaging, or final inspection. Ability to evaluate process capability, identify risks, and define practical solutions for stable series production is expected.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong experience with process documentation, time studies, layout planning, capacity planning, line balancing, work instructions, Lean methods, structured problem-solving, process validation, and production optimization. Ability to lead technical improvement topics independently and support decision-making with data-based analysis.
  • ERP / Master Data Knowledge: Practical experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Epicor, Advaris, etc.) especially related to routings, work centers, production orders, or master data maintenance.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a comparable technical qualification. Relevant practical experience may be considered in place of a formal degree.

Competencies:

  • Advanced industrial engineering methods
  • Process analysis and optimization
  • Lean Manufacturing mindset
  • Production layout and material flow understanding
  • Capacity planning and line balancing
  • Technical documentation
  • Problem-solving and root-cause analysis
  • ERP/MRP process understanding
  • Quality and safety awareness
  • Cross-functional communication
  • Hands-on shopfloor orientation
  • Project coordination
  • Cable manufacturing process knowledge
