Current positions in the electrical industry
Purchasing Agent – NY – 5605
Egret Consulting
There is a certain kind of Electrical Distributor that doesn’t need to advertise who they are. You feel it the minute you walk in. The place runs with purpose. Orders move. Trucks roll. People know their jobs and take pride in doing them well. This is one of those environments. I’m partnering with such a company. They are a long-established, family-owned electrical distributor with a strong reputation in the market, a loyal customer base, and a team that tends to stay. When people join, they build careers here. The business has grown steadily without losing its identity, and decisions still get made quickly, without layers. They are looking for someone who wants to step into that kind of setting and make a real impact.
We are seeking a Purchasing Agent.
You will sit at the center of the operation. This is not a passive, transactional buying role. It is hands-on, visible, and connected to everything from the warehouse floor to vendor relationships. You will start your day working through backorders, walking the floor, seeing what is moving and what is not, and translating that into smart, timely purchasing decisions. You will build and manage stock orders, create purchase orders, negotiate pricing, and make sure material is where it needs to be when it needs to be there. It is a constant balance of availability and cost, and the people who do it well take pride in getting both right.
You will work closely with inside sales, vendors, manufacturer reps, and leadership. There is real access here. Reps come in, sit down, and talk through opportunities. You will be part of those conversations. There is also room to influence. If something needs to be pushed, reviewed, or rethought, your voice matters. This is a role for someone who understands the rhythm of an electrical supply house and wants to grow into more responsibility over time.
The ideal background is straightforward. You know electrical products. Not adjacent categories, not close enough. Electrical. You understand how a supply house operates, whether that experience comes from the counter, the warehouse, or inside sales. If you have been looking for a step forward into purchasing, this is a natural move. If you are more seasoned and have been doing this at a high level, there is room here for you as well. They will pay for the right person.
The company operates with a strong buying mix, including a significant portion through group purchasing as well as direct manufacturer relationships. That means exposure to both structured programs and direct negotiation. It is a great environment to sharpen your commercial instincts while staying grounded in the day-to-day realities of distribution.
The schedule is consistent. Monday through Friday, 8 to 5, in the office. Full benefits, including major medical, HSA contributions, paid holidays, and sick time. Stability is real here. This is a team of roughly 35 people, supported by a fleet that keeps product moving, and a culture that values doing things the right way. Bills get paid on time. Vendors trust them. Customers rely on them.
This opening exists because the workload has outgrown the current structure. There is a real need for someone to step in and own it fully. We are not looking to fill a seat. We are looking for a long-term solution. Someone who wants to take responsibility, grow with the business, and be part of a team that plans to be here for the next 20 years, not just the next quarter.
Salary: $65 – $95k for a junior candidate or someone transitioning and requiring training. $110k+ for a proven, experienced person. And for the right fit (if required), there is even more flexibility. The organization is willing to pay for the right candidate.
If you have experience in electrical distribution and you are starting to think about what is next, this is worth a conversation. A straightforward discussion to see if it makes sense on both sides.
Please reach out directly to me. We will talk through where you are, what you want, and whether this opportunity lines up. If it does, we will take the next step. If it doesn’t, you will still walk away with a clearer picture of your options.
Confidential, professional, and respectful of your time.
