Current positions in the electrical industry
Sales Engineer – South Florida – 5598
Egret Consulting
I am partnering with a well-established and highly respected manufacturer’s representative in the electrical power and utility space. They operate at scale, covering the transmission and distribution market across Florida while maintaining a reputation that opens doors rather than forcing them. The organization is privately held, financially strong, and built on long-term relationships with both customers and manufacturers. Their model is simple but not easy. Hire sharp, motivated people, give them autonomy, support them with resources, and trust them to build a business. The result is a team that tends to stay for the long haul, with very little turnover outside of retirement.
We are seeking a proven Sales Engineer.
The firm represents a focused portfolio of premier manufacturers and work closely with some of the largest and most influential Utilities, Municipalities, and Co-Ops. Their environment is entrepreneurial, flexible, and collaborative. There is no micromanagement here. People are expected to think, act, and operate like owners. For those who prove they can do that, there is real upside over time.
This role is based in South Florid, covering the east coast from roughly the Treasure Coast down through Miami and into the Keys. The territory is centered around major utility accounts, municipal utilities, and coopratives, with exposure to two of the largest utilities in the country.
The position reports to a hands-off, highly respected leader who believes in teaching a consultative, relationship-driven sales approach. The onboarding process is immersive. You will spend time in the field, shadowing experienced team members, learning the customer landscape, and understanding how to navigate complex organizations. It is very much an osmosis-style learning environment where curiosity and engagement matter.
At its core, this is a true Sales Engineer role. It requires technical credibility and commercial execution. You are not just selling products. You are helping customers solve problems, guiding specifications, and working projects from early-stage conversations all the way through purchase order and execution.
A typical week involves a mix of customer meetings, project visits, internal coordination, and manufacturer interaction. You might be working with a utility engineer on getting a product approved, walking through specifications, asking the right technical questions, and then following that opportunity through to a project win. There is both a strategic element in influencing long-term standards and a tactical element in driving near-term product adoption.
Success in this role comes down to a few things. You need to be technically credible and comfortable engaging with engineers. You need to be organized enough to manage multiple projects at different stages. You need to be proactive in building relationships and identifying opportunities rather than waiting for them. And you need to take ownership, from the first conversation through execution.
The ideal background is someone with an engineering foundation, ideally electrical, who has exposure to the utility and power distribution space. Experience working with or alongside manufacturers in this industry is highly relevant, especially if you have been involved with standards, specifications, or utility-facing work. Familiarity with major OEMs in the space is a plus, but more important is the ability to learn quickly and ask smart questions.
This is a business where relationships matter and reputations carry weight. The team works with well-known, established customers who expect a high level of professionalism and technical competence. At the same time, the company culture is grounded, ethical, and straightforward. There are no surprises here.
Compensation includes a competitive base salary with an incentive plan tied to performance. Earnings are uncapped and paid quarterly, with strong upside for those who outperform targets. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package, including strong health coverage, retirement contributions, profit sharing, and a vehicle allowance. All business-related expenses are covered, and the flexibility to manage your own schedule is a key part of the role.
Longer term, this is a place where someone can build a career. The organization values tenure, rewards performance, and provides a path for individuals who want to take on more responsibility over time. For the right person, this is not just a job. It is an opportunity to build something within a business that already has a strong foundation. While ownership is not guaranteed, team members who have proven themselves over time have been given the opportunity to purchase an equity stake in the organization.
