Switchgear Estimating Manager – MD – 5561
Egret Consulting
The Switchgear Estimating Manager will play a critical leadership role within one of the oldest and most respected electrical distributors in the Mid-Atlantic region. The role is based in Maryland and will oversee a team of eight estimators across multiple branch locations, each bringing different levels of experience and technical depth. There will be occasional travel to other branches, but the core focus will remain on building a strong, aligned estimating function that drives accuracy, profitability, and customer confidence.
This is not a figurehead role. Proven experience performing switchgear quotations is essential, and a significant portion of the day-to-day responsibility will involve actively preparing and reviewing quotes. The right individual has lived their career in switchgear. They understand the details, the manufacturers, the configurations, the common pitfalls, and the urgency that comes with complex projects. They are comfortable digging into drawings and specifications, asking the right questions, and delivering numbers that are both competitive and defensible.
The Switchgear Estimating Manager will lead and mentor the estimating team, providing hands on guidance, training, and performance feedback. This person will set the tone for accountability, responsiveness, and technical rigor. They will review project specifications and electrical drawings, develop detailed cost estimates, and ensure that every proposal leaving the department reflects both precision and professionalism.
Collaboration will be central to the role. The Manager will work closely with sales, engineering, project management, customer service, and executive leadership to ensure estimates align with customer expectations and company objectives. They will serve as the bridge between technical detail and commercial strategy, helping drive both customer acquisition and long-term profitability.
Strong vendor and manufacturer relationships are a must. The Manager will maintain and strengthen those partnerships to secure competitive pricing, stay current on product developments, and position the company effectively in the marketplace. They will also lead continuous improvement efforts within the estimating process, identifying opportunities to enhance tools, streamline workflows, and improve accuracy across all branches.
In addition to operational leadership, this individual will participate in executive discussions around growth projections, market expansion, and differentiated services. They will bring data, insight, and practical recommendations to the table.
The ideal candidate is solutions oriented, customer focused, highly motivated, and team driven. They are organized, deadline conscious, and comfortable leading people with varying levels of seniority and experience. They possess strong communication skills and the ability to influence across departments. They have a deep understanding of switchgear estimating, are proficient in reading and interpreting electrical drawings and specifications and are familiar with procurement processes and vendor negotiations. If this is you, we need to talk!
This is a golden opportunity to shape and elevate a core function within a well-established and highly regarded organization. For the right leader, this role represents both stability and meaningful impact.
